It is said that in 1634, the 11th monk of Shoji Temple started planting trees with autumn leaves. After that, local residents continued to voluntarily plant trees, and by 1930, the incense from Kozai Temple and the scent of forest trees began to naturally waft from the mountain, hence the name Korankei. There are approximately 4,000 local trees that change their leaves in autumn, and they are spectacular when they turn red.
